This year we have already seen Vivo X20 Plus UD and X21 UD smartphones with the in-display sensor and it is just a start. Today we are hearing reports that Huawei might be going this route and it is said to sport an under-display fingerprint scanner. Huawei is said to be choosing the Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint solution which might make the new Mate 11 ( or Mate 20) flagship the first smartphone to ship with that particular sensor built-in. The Huawei Mate flagship s scheduled to launch in late Q3 or early Q4 (so September or October). Qualcomm, in order to build its ultrasonic sensor, is said to have partnered with Taiwan-based GIS and China's O-film Tech, both specializing in offering touchscreen solutions. While it is three-time costlier than the traditional counterparts, but is also 0.44mm thick and works through "up to 800-micron cover glass", compared to only 200-300 microns of glass thickness for 'normal' capacitive scanners. The sensor will also work when your fingers are wet or greasy. Huawei isn't the only company looking towards under-display fingerprint sensors, others brands are also apparently decided to build ...

Following the P20 launch, Huawei is now again back in the news with a foldable display. The company has patented a foldable smartphone that opens and closes like a book. The patent was filed with WIPO on September 19 last year and is only published today. The patent is titled "mobile terminal folding mechanism and mobile terminal." Going by the patent sketches, the design more or less resembles the Microsoft Surfaces' hinge design but with a much smaller gap. The display is, however, a single panel, unlike the ZTE Axon M. When opened, the smartphone looks like a tablet and might come off as a smartphone when closed. By alternating the use of soft and hard components, the mechanism can be folded whenever you want without any problems and small gaps or holes in the design are prevented. This is not the first time we are hearing about a foldable smartphone from Huawei. Back in October, Huawei speaking to CNET has mentioned that the company has a working sample of the phone but needs a better, flexible and a mechanical design and it still needs some more time to perfect the design before it launches. Will the company launch a smartphone with foldable a ...

Samsung has been patiently working on a foldable with a 7.3-inch display for quite some time, but it is Huawei that might be making the first move. According to a report from Korean news site ETNews, Huawei is aiming to release a foldable smartphone in November ahead of Samsung falling in line with an earlier report. With Huawei becoming the first manufacturer to launch first foldable smartphone available on the commercial market-beating Samsung, Huawei is possibly aiming to make up for the set back it is facing in the USA. Technically, we have already seen a foldable Axon M last year, but that it is two screens with a hinge and not the same as what Huawei’s foldable phone will be. Flexible OLED display will allow the actual screen itself to bend and fold without the use of hinges or the extra bulk, meaning a foldable, thinner smartphone will be available possibly as soon as November. It is also understood that the OLED provider will be LG but not Samsung according to ETNews. Since the two companies are in direct competition to be the first to sell a foldable smartphone. To be clear, there is no confirmation that the device will launch in November, plans might change and Huawei might push the release ...
